About the show

Character Proof

Tasting notes, and a whole lot of character flaws.

The premise

Here's the whole show, and I promise that's all it is: you can tell a lot about a person by what's in their glass.

Every episode I pour something — a bourbon, a rye, a scotch, the bottle a friend dared me to try — and I review it for real. Nose, palate, finish, proof. What it actually tastes like, not what the box wants you to believe.

Then I do the thing the straight review shows don't. I imagine — vividly, confidently, with absolutely no scientific basis — the exact type of person who drinks it on purpose. The friend whose whiskey shelf costs more than their car. The guy who calls every pour "a journey." That character study is the point. The whiskey's just how we get there.

It's affectionate, always. We tease the drinker; we never sneer at you. The archetypes are made up — fictional composites, not real people — and the reviews are my honest opinion of the spirit, never a swipe at the folks who make it.

If you like good whiskey and good-natured gossip about people who don't exist, you're in the right bar. Grab a glass and pull up a chair.

Your host

Tim — real photo, coming soon

I'm Tim Fulton. I've spent more time than is strictly reasonable in the company of a glass and a strong opinion, and at some point the two became a podcast.

I'm not a certified anything — no master-taster credential on the wall, no distillery on speed dial. Just a genuinely curious palate and a bad habit of profiling strangers by their drink order. Character Proof started as a bit I couldn't stop doing at parties. Now it has a microphone. Lucky you.

What I promise: honest reviews, a real point of view, and a character study sharp enough to make you laugh and specific enough to make you nervous. Pour something decent. Let's get into it.

Get in touch

Suggest a bottle, sponsor a pour, or say hi.

The two best reasons to email me, and one perfectly good third one.

Got a bottle I have to pour?

Send it my way — the cult favorite, the bottom-shelf hero, the thing you can't believe nobody talks about. No bottle's too cheap, none too sacred.

Want to sponsor the show?

If your brand fits the bar, let's talk. I keep it tasteful, I keep it honest, and I only read what I'd actually drink.

Or just reach out:hello@characterproof.com

One last thing, then I'll get out of your glass: drink the good stuff slowly, and drink responsibly. The whole show falls apart if you're not around for the next pour.
