The Time Capsule
Boarded the time machine in 2009 and never fully disembarked.
Drinks of choice
The sweet, soft, barely-load-bearing spiced rum that isn't really a rum so much as a time machine with a pirate on it — a vehicle for a specific basement between 2007 and 2011. It asks nothing of him, which is the entire appeal.
- Still does the pose
- Pirate 11 of 15 Halloweens
- Owns a red sash
- A human "Mr. Brightside"
- Never reads the menu

The dossier
The Time Capsule has evolved in every way but one. The career, the mortgage, the mature retirement portfolio — all current. It’s only in the vicinity of this one bottle that time stopped. At every gathering, a leg will rise to a cooler or a folding chair, chin out, fists on hips, the stance of the label, and someone new will ask what he’s doing, and someone older will say, quietly, “that’s him.”
The marketing campaign that paid people to do this pose ended over a decade ago. The company moved on. He did not.
The tell: he does not read the menu. Handed a leather-bound list of barrel-aged Negronis, he smiles, hands it back, and orders the same rum-and-cola he ordered at a club that has since become a CVS.
The affectionate part: at his college roommate’s wedding, the DJ played the song and the whole room turned — not to the bride, for one criminal moment, but to the back, where his leg was already rising to a chair, and the reception cheered. Because the pose, twelve years on, is proof of continuity. Same guy. Same joke. Still showing up, still willing to be ridiculous so everyone else gets to feel twenty-two for four minutes.
“Oh, this song? Say no more.”
Some monuments are bronze. This one is a grown man on a folding chair, and it means the old country still stands.

For the time capsule — the leg rises, the campaign ended, the memo never arrived.
Could this be you?
Don't take it personally. Take the quiz.
Find out which drinker you really are — or name a bottle and let the Pour Profiler read whoever's holding it. Both are free; neither is gentle.
